Fitness – Physical, Mental and Spiritual

Fitness means building muscles and having an awesome physique?

So is that what we think about fitness? What actually is it? Let’s not wonder much and dive into the world of Fitness.

What I believe is that to be fit is the condition of being healthy. By healthy I mean being in a good condition physically, mentally and spiritually.

Different Forms

Different people have different preferences. Not everybody will like working out, not everyone will like to learn or not everyone will also like yoga and meditation. Oh! so I revealed all the forms of fitness right there? Yes, but this is my thought about fitness forms:

  • Physical Fitness  (Gym, Aerobics, Flexibility)
  • Mental Fitness (Learning, Brainstorming, Researches)
  • Spiritual Fitness (Meditation, Yoga)

The above points are just my perception on being fit and may not be what specialists have to say about. However, some points also may overlap such as meditation also benefiting mental health, I’ve still generalized it into some simpler form.

Physical Fitness

We all are very familiar with physical fitness. Maybe once in a lifetime we’ve all tried some measures for it too. Some of us were consistent and most probably many of us were not. 

One of the biggest obstacle is that most of us lack the proper motivation for it or let’s say to get fit. Most of our motivation comes with a family function coming by or when summer approaches.

Well that’s where we are lacking if we intend to be physically fit which we all should. If you really intend to develop physically, mentally or spiritually then the first thing we need is that determination regardless of any situation.

Mental Fitness

It involves factors such as psychological well-being or an absence of mental illness. It is a cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. It is all about how people think, feel, and behave.

According to Mental Health UK,  good mental health is characterized by a person’s ability to fulfill a number of key functions and activities, including:

  • the ability to learn
  • the ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions
  • the ability to form and maintain good relationships with others
  • the ability to cope with and manage change and uncertainty.

So what exactly to do for maintaining Mental Fitness? Well, we can do these:

  • Eat well
  • Exercise daily
  • Most importantly Learning

Spiritual Fitness

There is an impression about spirituality in our mind that it must be something related to God or some rituals. For me spiritual means truth.

Spiritually fit is being connected to something greater than yourself. We can be spiritually fit by having:

  • set of values
  • principles
  • morals and beliefs

So, what could be done to stay spiritually fit? Well anything that helps us stay focused, refreshed and mainly make us think positively.

  • Explore your spiritual core.
  • Try yoga
  • Take time to meditate.
